None of the wood in my turnings comes from commercially harvested woods traditionally used by wood turners. Generally, this wood becomes available due to the monsoon storms in and around Phoenix. For this reason the wood is usually of varieties found in the Sonoran Desert. For that reason, some pieces have a more weathered look than commercially harvested wood. I find the weathering adds uniqueness to the pieces. Knots, sap wood, bark and other features of the wood are incoporated into the finished piece when possible. When known, the type of wood is noted on the card that accompanies each piece. |
Completed turnings are stained, waxed or, if possible, left natural. Additions to the turnings may included leather, jute or other type of hangers and wood, glass or metal clappers. Please keep in mind that all computer monitors display colors differently. The images of the turnings you see are as close to actual colors as possible. The bells displayed here are made of wood. They will not produce the sounds you have come to expect from traditional bells. These bells are designed to be decorative in nature and not musical.
